Working as the Area Manager for the Abu Dhabi territory since 2006, Shamim Valappil oversees the distribution of seven newspapers and more than 200 magazines (local and international) for the Abu Dhabi emirate plus western UAE regions including Jebel Dhanna, Al Ruwais and Liwa.
Managing a team of supervisors, salesmen and delivery workers, Shamim runs a tight ship and lives by setting goals for himself and his team. His primary responsibilities include subscriptions, retail and corporate sales, as well as bulk distribution for hotels, airlines and government offices.
Before joining Tawseel, Shamim joined Khaleej Times newspaper as the Circulation and Promotion Assistant and left as the Circulation Supervisor.
Born in Badagara, Kerala, Shamim holds a Bachelors degree in Commerce from Calicut University. He came to Dubai in 1998 when his brother dragged him here. A decade later, Shamim is still here and says it was the right decision. “Dubai is the place to enhance your career,” he says.
Not your typical corporate businessman, Shamim believes that it’s important to dream because it helps drive you to achieve your ambitions. He is a self-confessed cricket freak but on the odd occasions when he’s not playing or watching cricket, he likes to swim, read or listen to music.
